Storms To Drench NJ During Wet Week: See Latest Forecast

Widespread rain will start Tuesday and continue into the weekend, according to the latest forecast.

A wet week is in store for the Garden State, as showers and storms move in, according to the latest forecast.

Monday, the astronomical beginning of fall, will start the week off dry and warm. Storms out in the Atlantic, including Hurricane Gabrielle, will cause dangerous rip currents along the Jersey Shore, National Weather Service forecasters said.

Things will kick off late Tuesday into Tuesday night, the National Weather Service said, with showers and a few thunderstorms possible mostly northwest of I-95. There is a marginal risk of severe weather, but likely not anything more than that, forecasters said.

The risk of showers will remain throughout the rest of the week into the weekend. The strongest risk is Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service. Some early forecasts indicate a "substantial" amount of rain, but recent dryness should limit widespread flooding potential, forecasters said.

The rain will be beneficial for the dry state - the U.S. Drought Monitor shows much of North Jersey being "abnormally dry" with portions listed as "moderate drought," including almost all of Mercer County.
