NEW JERSEY — While it’s only April, summer-like heat is expected to hit the Garden State Monday, forecasters said.
New Jersey residents can expect sunny skies and daytime high temperatures near 80 degrees, dropping down to the mid-50s by Monday evening, according to the National Weather Service.
“Today's another warm day to enjoy some spring time weather in the Mid Atlantic,” the National Weather Service Mount Holly station said in a Monday statement.

The forecast is slated to sour after a partly sunny Tuesday with temperatures in the 70s, the weather service said, with a chance of showers Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Temperatures are expected to cool down into the high 60s by then.
The silver lining: dry skies, partly cloudy skies and daytime temperatures in the 70s are expected Thursday and Friday before another chance of showers rolls around Saturday and Sunday.

North Jersey
Monday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. West wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Monday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 p.m., then a slight chance of showers after 4 a.m. Patchy fog after 2 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 54. East wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Tuesday: A slight chance of showers before 8 a.m., then a slight chance of showers after 2 p.m. Patchy fog before 8 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 72. East wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
Tuesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 52. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Wednesday: A chance of showers, mainly before 5 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 69. Northwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 50.
Central Jersey
Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. North wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon.
