Thousands Lose Power As Halloween Windstorm Batters NJ
Winds in excess of 50 mph were reported Thursday. More of that is expected Friday, forecasters warn.
Strong winds and heavy rain lashed New Jersey the day before Halloween, and more winds are in store for Friday, according to the latest forecast.
Thousands of New Jerseyans lost power Thursday as wind gusts in excess of 50 mph knocked down trees and powerlines. The highest wind reported was 57 mph in Sea Bright, according to the National Weather Service.
Throughout the state, 1 to 3 inches of rain fell. More than 3 inches was reported in Morris County, which according to the National Weather Service, was the most rainfall in the state.

There won't be any more rain on Friday, but it will be a very windy Halloween, forecasters said.
"Wicked winds will be howling this Halloween as the strong storm system that impacted the region on Thursday departs the region," National Weather Service forecasters said.

Winds of 45 mph to 50 mph are in store across the entire state, National Weather Service forecasters said. The strongest winds are expected to blow in North Jersey and along the Jersey Shore.
All of New Jersey is under a Wind Advisory until midnight. More power outages could occur, and gusts could blow around Halloween decorations and knock down additional tree limbs.
It will also be a little chilly, with highs in the mid-to-upper-50s in most areas, nearing 60 degrees near the coast.
These strong winds will gradually subside into the night, but will remain gusty. Winds of 20 mph to 30 mph are expected overnight, forecasters said.
Dry and rather tranquil conditions are in store for the weekend. Early next week, a cold front will move in. And another storm system looks to approach midweek. However, it's too early for forecasters to have any solid details.
