NEW JERSEY — A gloomy storm and a subsequent overnight freeze is set to break up the sunny, warm weather in parts of the Garden State this week, forecasters said.
Isolated rain showers are anticipated to start after 11 a.m., with rumbles of thunder possible this afternoon, the National Weather Service said. Daytime temperatures are set to approach 70 degrees, though winds up to 15 mph might add a chill.
“A few showers and a rumble of thunder possible,” the weather service said of the forecast, adding temperatures are slated to plummet overnight.

As of 9:30 a.m., northwestern New Jersey is under a freeze watch through Thursday morning.
“Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation,” the National Weather service said in a statement. “Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 31 possible.”

The rain is expected to taper off by Wednesday night, just in time for sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-50s to return Thursday.
The rest of the week will remain sunny and warm in the 60s during the day with some level of chill and areas of frost at night, according to AccuWeather.

North Jersey
Wednesday: Scattered showers, mainly between noon and 3 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 63. Northwest wind 7 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 30. Wind chill values between 25 and 30. Northwest wind 7 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.
Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 56. Wind chill values between 25 and 35 early. North wind 3 to 7 mph.
Thursday Night: Clear, with a low around 32. South wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable in the evening.
Friday: Sunny, with a high near 61. Light and variable wind becoming south around 6 mph in the morning.
Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 37.
Central Jersey
Wednesday: Isolated showers after 11 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 68. West wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 38. North wind around 10 mph
Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 54. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph.
Thursday Night: Clear, with a low around 34. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight.
Friday: Sunny, with a high near 59. Light and variable wind becoming southeast 5 to 10 mph in the morning.
Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 38.
South Jersey
Wednesday: Isolated showers between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 70. West wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 41. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming north after midnight.
Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 55. East wind around 10 mph.
Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 34. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight.
Friday: Sunny, with a high near 58. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph.
