The Garden State also falls in the top five nationwide when it comes to the top locations to settle down.

One New Jersey suburb is leading the way as the top destination in the state to raise a family.

According to the latest rankings by Niche, the Garden State also falls in the top five nationwide when it comes to the top locations to settle down. The 2025 Best Places to Raise a Family in America ranks combine data from sources like the U.S. Census, U.S. Department of Education and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) with millions of reviews from students, parents and residents.

Report cards were then compiled based on the following factors: public schools grade, higher education rate, cost of living grade, crime & safety grade, housing grade, family amentities grade, composite overall score, diversity grade, outdoor activities grade, percent of households with children, walkability grade, children below poverty, and percentage of residents 17 years old and under.

Haworth, NJ (State Rank: 1, National Rank: 5)

Located in Bergen County, Haworth is a suburb of New York City with a population of 3,321 and a rural feel. Homeowners make up 95 percent of the residents, compared to just the five percent that rent. The median home value comes in at $815,300 with median rent sitting at $3,501 per month.

The top four out of five public schools serving Haworth all received a B+ or higher rating from Niche, with the top five private institutions all earning an A+. At 18 percent, those aged 10-17 make up the second-highest demographic percentage of those who live in the community.

Of the people who call Haworth home, 35 percent have a college Bachelor's degree or higher, compared to 21 percent nationally. Household income is more than $150,000 in 76 percent of homes, with a median of around $227,841.

Haworth also ranks No. 5 on the Best Suburbs to Live in New Jersey list.

New Jersey's neighbors also stood out as prime locations to build a family foundation. The Tri-State area dominated the top five ranks in the Niche list, commanding all but one of the spots. The number one place to raise a family in America went to Chesterbrook, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia.
