Where NJ Teachers Earn The Most: Districts With $100K Median Salaries
The median salary for New Jersey teachers this year is $80,196, up from $77,950 in 2022-23, according to state data.
NEW JERSEY — Teachers in 15 New Jersey school districts are earning a median salary of more than $100,000 this year, with the median at one district over $119,000, according to state data.
The figures come from the newest edition of the New Jersey Department of Education's Taxpayers' Guide to Education Spending.
A teacher's salary depends on several factors, including the teacher's experience and education level, the staff size in the district, the education level they are teaching, and the cost of living around the district.

The top-paying districts have teachers with more experience than the state average, which is 12.6 years, according to data from the annual state report card data for the 2023-24 school year. New Jersey teachers also have an average of 11.3 years of experience in their district.

The median salary for New Jersey teachers this year is $80,196, up from $77,950 in 2022-23, according to state data. Teachers in K-6 schools earn the least overall with a median $69,343 salary, while those in high schools with only grades 9-12 earn a median salary of $92,892, state data shows.
Of the 15 districts with a median salary of $100,000 or more, six are in Bergen County, two are in Essex, two are in Sussex and two are in Atlantic County. Northern Valley Regional in Demarest, which serves students in ninth through 12th grades, continues to lead all districts, with its median salary of $119,285 and an average salary $117,412.
