Big Shift In NJ’s Weather Forecast Coming: What To Know

Parts of New Jersey could see 1.5 inches of rain and gusty winds Tuesday thanks to an incoming storm system, according to the latest forecast.

The coastal low Tuesday is expected to bring some beneficial rain primarily to South Jersey as the state faces an ongoing dry spell. It's not expected to be particularly strong or severe, according to the National Weather Service.

Showers will start Tuesday morning in the southern area of the state, and then grow northward to peak Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

South Jersey, especially near the coast, is likely to see half an inch to 1 inch of rain, locally possible up to 1.5 inches. North and west of the I-195 corridor "would be lucky" to see 0.1 inches of rain, "if anything at all," the National Weather Service said. Along the I-195 corridor is a mixed bag, forecasters say: it should see 0.1 to 0.25 inches of rain, but some areas may see a little more or a little less.

"The rain will be showery in nature, not really an 'all day rain' type of situation, rather periods of showers and light rain at times," National Weather Service forecasters said.

Severe storms are not in the forecast but some embedded thunder is possible in stronger storms, forecasters said.

"No severe thunderstorms are expected, but the heavier showers or storms could help mix down briefly stronger wind gusts around 30-40 mph," the National Weather Service said. "Given the recent dryness and heavier rainfall occurring over the sandy coastal plain, no fresh water flood threat is expected."

Some showers may linger Thursday along the coast, but other than that, New Jersey will return to being dry and warm.
