A late-week winter storm is expected to bring a rollercoaster of temperatures to the region, forecasters said. See the updated forecast:
NEW JERSEY - Garden State residents are on track to see a rollercoaster of February weather this week, ranging from a late-week winter storm to a weekend arctic chill to a spring-like warmup.
Thursday will start on a high note with partly sunny skies and highs in the mid-40s, according to the National Weather Service. A rain storm slated to bring 1 to 1.5 inches of precipitation to the state will move into the region Thursday evening and is set to linger into Friday.

In areas around I-95 from Philadelphia to New York City, the storm is expected to slow travel conditions (including air travel) and create hazards from slick conditions to poor visibility and possible fog, per AccuWeather.

Just as the rain storm tapers off Friday evening, temperatures are slated to plummet to the low 30s and high 20s in some regions, according to AccuWeather. Saturday will see mostly sunny skies with highs in the 40s, dipping back into the low 20s overnight; the melting snow from last week’s storm and new rain accumulation may freeze over, prompting slippery conditions.
"There could be issues with groundwater freezing and creating slick spots over the weekend," AccuWeather Meteorologist Joseph Bauer said.

Sunday will similarly see dry skies with 40-degree highs and lows hovering around freezing, according to the National Weather Service.
Another upswing is on the horizon starting Monday, with sunny skies and highs pushing 60 degrees in the forecast. Lows are only predicted to be in the 40s, forecasters said. The good news: the warmup is expected to last for at least until mid-week.
“What we have higher confidence in is the warming trend continuing, with a stretch of above normal temperatures through at least Wednesday,” the National Weather Service said.
