Area Fire Companies Respond To Massive Buy-Rite Blaze In Waretown

The fire broke out late Sunday night, residents advised to stay away from the area.

OCEAN TOWNSHIP, NJ - Many area fire companies responded to a massive structural fire at the Buy-Rite Liquor store on Route 9 late on Sunday night.

Waretown Fire Company members arrived at the building at 11 p.m. and found the blaze had already spread to the second floor and the attic, according to the Waretown Volunteer Fire Company's Facebook page.

Firefighters had to temporarily leave the 9,000-square-foot building because of extremely heavy fire and heat on the second floor, until some of the blaze could be knocked down. When they went back in, they pulled down the interior ceilings and were able to put out the fire.

Due to the high fire load and the extent of the fire, nearby area fire companies also responded. They included the Forked River, Barnegat, Stafford, Pinewald Pioneer and Lanoka Harbor fire companies.

A local Nixle alert sent last night advised residents to stay away from the area.
