Homeland Security Seminar Offers Tips for Upcoming Tourist Season

Registration is required for the free event, which will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on June 7 at the Stafford Township firehouse.

STAFFORD TOWNSHIP, NJ - Want to know how to respond to security threats during the upcoming tourism season and beyond?

Come and get some answers from representatives of the state Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness and the federal Homeland Security office at a June 7 workshop at the Stafford Volunteer Fire Company at 133 Stafford Avenue.

Anyone who operates a business, volunteers or hosts any kind of event should make attending the workshop a priority, said Lori Pepenella, Chief Executive Officer of the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce.

"A discussion of this caliber needs to be part of our preparation for the season," she said. "This is an opportunity for the business community to learn from having these experts available to us."

The event is coordinated by the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and local law enforcement. It will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

More than 70 people attended the first "Homeland Security Initiative" last year. This year's event will include the latest and best homeland security practices. Items to be discussed include a threat briefing, protective security measures, how to prepare for, mitigate and respond to security threats.
