Joseph William Lee Peer, Contractor, Professional Clammer, Dies At 77

Services for the life member of the Stafford Township Fire Company will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Joseph William Lee Peer, Sr. of West Creek died on Oct. 15. He was 77.

He was born on Dec. 6, 1938 in Cedar Run, NJ, Joe raised his family there before he retired to West Creek in 1985.

Joe was an accomplished contractor who built many homes in the area. He was also a professional clammer who enjoyed spending time on the bay. Joe was a lifetime member of the Stafford Township Volunteer Fire Company, and served as treasurer for many years before retiring due to illness. He was an avid sports fan, nature lover, and local historian.

Joe was predeceased by his loving wife, Hope, his parents Lester Lawrence and Caroline Lillian Peer, and his siblings Caroline Grant, Betty-Lou Inman, and Lester Peer Jr. He is survived by his children, Joseph Peer Jr. (wife Cynthia) and Jennifer O'Connell (husband Tim), his grandchildren Desiree Jones and Amanda Jones, his great-grandchild, Damien Leonard, and many loving friends and family, including his niece, Cookie Wells (husband Tom Dent), brother-in-law Ronald Fullalove (wife Kathy) and sister-in-law Pamela "Tina" Stevens (husband Leon).

Visitation with services to follow will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m on Tuesday, Oct. 18, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Maxwell-Tobie Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Road, Manahawkin, NJ. Burial will take place at the West Creek Cemetery.
