Labor Day Car Crash Closes Manahawkin Road: Police

One person was taken to the hospital for treatment after Monday evening's crash, Stafford police said.

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — The roadway was temporarily closed Monday evening after a crash at the intersection of Lighthouse Drive and Buccaneer Lane that sent one person to the hospital, Stafford police said.

At about 5:55 p.m. on Labor Day, a 20-year-old Barnegat man was trying to enter the roadway when he pulled into the path of an oncoming vehicle driven by a 21-year-old whose hometown was not shared, police said.

That driver was taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center for further treatment of an arm injury, police said.

The Barnegat man and his passenger, a 20-year-old, were treated on scene by EMS for minor injuries and declined to be taken to the hospital, police said.

The Barnegat driver was issued a summons for careless driving, police said.

The roadway was closed for about 30 minutes while emergency crews operated and traffic was temporarily detoured, according to police.
