Louis Alexander 'Lou' Jammer Of Brant Beach Dies At 85

Louis Alexander Jammer, Jr., "Lou," a well-known local businessman, died unexpectedly at his home in Brant Beach on Long Beach Island on Tuesday Nov. 29, 2016.

Lou touched the lives of so many people during his 85 years. His generous ways and kind heart left a lasting impression on all those he knew. He was born in Morrisville, Pennsylvania on May 6, 1931 where he grew up and spent his childhood years. He attended George School in Newtown, Pennsylvania, where he made lifelong friends and managed sports teams as well as the school bank.

Lou met his wife Lynn while obtaining their pre-med degrees at Syracuse University. Lou was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, where Lynn was crowned the Fraternity Sweetheart.

Lynn, a Brant Beach physician who passed away in 2012, and Lou were married in 1950 while juniors at Syracuse. They both dreamed of becoming physicians and spent one year at McGill University in Canada in post-graduate genetics study. The sudden death of Lou's father in 1953 prompted them to leave McGill and return home to Morrisville, Pa where he would join the family business, Jammer Doors.

Lou was then drafted into the army during the Korean War, and was first stationed in San Antonio as a medic and later in Colorado Springs where he worked in the pathology department. Following his service, and the birth of their first child Dana, they returned to Morrisville, Pennsylvania so Lou could take over Jammer Doors. Jammer Doors was a dream started by his father and mother in 1920 and Lou and his son Lou III and grandson Lou IV continue to keep the dream alive today. Lou was looking forward to celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the company in 2020.

Lou first came to Long Beach Island as a child when his father bought a home in Brant Beach. Lou loved the island and often referred to the "Lure of Long Beach." He said, "Of all the places that he traveled to throughout the world, Long Beach Island was the best."

He started buying oceanfront properties and began a summer rental business, Surfside Vacations, which he ran for more than forty years with his partner and lifelong friend, Clark Gesemyer. Lou and Clark also began building and developing homes on the island, one of Lou's greatest passions. At the same time, he developed a love for cooking and was well known for his great meals and "epic paella."

Lou was very involved in helping others throughout his life through many philanthropic organizations including being a lifetime board member of both the Salvation Army and Kiwanis Club of Trenton, NJ. He and Lynn cared for many foster children prior to beginning a family of their own.

Lou was predeceased by his wife, Lynn and granddaughter, Nikkie Jammer. He is survived by his children: Dana Weyrick, Sherry Hughes and husband Tom, Lou (Tad) Jammer III and his wife Danette and Holly Shore and her husband Dan, as well as, his thirteen grandchildren Laura Weyrick, Jaimee Boyle, Brittany Solon, Danielle Strausbaugh, Kristen Barnett, Katie Jammer, David Boyd, Sarah Henschel, Louis (Alex) Jammer (IV), Cody Jammer, Connor Shore and Jessica Shore and seven great-grandchildren with two more on the way. He is also survived by his twin sister, Betty Jane Lee and sister, Marty Sellers.

Lou lived a full and legendary life filled with family, friends, travel and adventure. May the Lord lift you up on eagle's wings Lou, our loving father, papa, and great-papa and we look forward to the day when we can reunite with you in Heaven.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 3 at the Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, 410 South Atlantic Avenue in Beach Haven. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Salvation Army, PO Box 60 Trenton NJ 08601. Arrangements are under the direction of Bugbee-Riggs Funeral Home, 12th Street on Long Beach Boulevard, Ship Bottom.
