Man Pulled From Surf City Waters On Wednesday Has Died

Multiple CPR attempts were unsuccessful, Surf City official says

SURF CITY, NJ - A man who was pulled from about four feet of water off the North First Street beach here on Wednesday afternoon has died, Councilman Peter M. Hartney said.

When Hartney, who is also a member of the fire department arrived, the man had been pulled from the water by a lifeguard about 2:47 p.m.

The guard had heard people screaming that someone was in trouble and rescued the man, Hartney said.

Many attempts at cardio-pulmonary resuscitation were made. First Aid squad members and paramedics worked on him on the way to Southern Ocean Medical Center, but the man didn't make it, Hartney said.

The ocean was calm and waves were only about 2 feet high at the time of the incident, but the tides were changing, he said.
