Manahawkin Man Injured When Car Strikes Pole

A Manahawkin man suffered internal injuries and had to be flown to a trauma center after his car collided with a utility pole, police said.

The accident occurred at 10:30 on Route on Feb. 20. Joshua R. Handel, 20, was traveling west on Route 72 approaching Lighthouse Drive when his black sedan left the roadway and struck the pole, Lt. James R. Vaugn said.

Handel suffered internal injuries and was flown by MONOC 1 to the Atlantic City Trauma Center for treatment, Vaughn said.

Route 72 was detoured into Ocean Acres for roughly 30 minutes.

Patrolmen Allen Jillson is investigating.

The Stafford Township Volunteer Fire Company, Stafford Volunteer EMS and MONOC paramedics assisted.
