Rules For Short-Term Rentals Adjusted In Stafford Township
According to the amended ordinance, a property owner must notify the code official in writing each time their tenants change.
STAFFORD, NJ — After a number of complaints about Airbnbs were brought to the council's attention, Stafford Township tightened the rules for short-term rentals.
According to the amended ordinance, a property owner must notify the code official in writing each time the tenants change. Property owners should relay the duration of rental, the tenants’ contact information and their own contact information in case any maintenance issues were to arise.
After four complaints are documented, a code official has the authority to revoke the landlord’s license.

“There have been a number of complaints regarding the short-term rentals really in several neighborhoods,” Mayor Gregory Myhre said at the township’s Oct. 26 meeting.
The updated ordinance aims to reduce the number of nuisance violations that have been reported in Beach Haven West, Ocean Acres and other neighborhoods in town.

“We’re not trying to go after everybody, but we’re trying to maintain quality of life for this town,” Myhre said. “Short-term rentals can be a great thing for property owners...but at the same time, let’s make sure they treat the permanent neighbors with respect.”
