Seven Injured In Route 72 Crash In Stafford Township

Two vehicle crash on Route 72 and Hull Drive tied up traffic for several hours, police say

STAFFORD TOWNSHIP, NJ - Seven people were injured and taken to local hospitals after a two-vehicle crash on Route 72 on Sunday night, Lt. James R. Vaughn said.

Police responded to the accident scene at the intersection of Route 72 and Hull Avenue. at 8:24 p.m.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Chevrolet Camaro driven by Duane Romana, 46, of Harrisburg, PA was traveling east on Route 72 approaching Hull Drive when he made a left hand turn onto Hull Drive. The Camaro struck a Hyundai SUV, which was traveling westbound on Route 72,Vaughn said.

The Hyundai SUV was being driven by Kyran Hurley, 52, Cherry Hill. Both vehicles left the roadway and were significantly damaged, he said.

Romana was the only occupant in the Chevrolet Camaro. He was taken to Atlantic City Trauma Center with a head injury. He received a summons for careless driving, pending a future Stafford municipal court appearance.

Claire Lindgren, 77, a passenger in the SUV, was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center with non-life threatening internal injuries. The other passengers in the Hyundai were Karen Lindgren, 51, Joseph Lindgren, 81, Lauren Hurley, 19, and a female juvenile, 16. All of the SUV passengers were taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center for observation and medical treatment. All of the passengers are from Cherry Hill, Vaughn said.

Traffic on Route 72 was detoured for approximately two hours, and both vehicles were towed from the scene.

The Stafford Township Volunteer EMS, Stafford Township Volunteer Fire Department and Great Bay Regional EMS assisted.
