Two Injured In Crash On Route 72 In Stafford

Accident caused traffic delays, one driver issued summons for careless driving.

Two men were injured and their vehicles badly damaged in a two-car crash in Manahawkin early this morning at the intersection of Route 72 and Stafford Park Boulevard, Lt. James R. Vaughn said.

A sports utility vehicle driven by Adam J. Bakos, 17, Manahawkin and a van driven by Anthony M. Walker, 59, Neptune collided at 7:35 a.m. on Dec. 5. Bakos was traveling east on Route 72 approaching Stafford Park Boulevard and Walker was trying to make a left hand turn from Stafford Park Boulevard onto Route 72 west when the accident occurred, Vaughn said.

Bakos' vehicle rolled over from the impact. Both vehicles had significant damage from the collision and had to be towed from the scene, he said.

Both men had internal injuries. Walker was taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center and Bakos was taken to the hospital later by a family member for further medical evaluation. Their conditions are unknown at this time, Vaughn said.

Walker was given a summons for careless driving, pending a future court date in Municipal Court.

Traffic on Route 72 was stopped and rerouted around the scene for approximately one hour.

Patrolman Jillson is the investigating officer. The Stafford Township Volunteer Fire Company, the Stafford Township Volunteer EMS and the MONOC paramedics assisted.
