STAFFORD, NJ - Chick-fil-A has began building its long awaited restaurant on Route 72 in Stafford Township.

In 2019, the township planning board gave the green light for a developer to build a Chick-fil-A restaurant and a Panera Bread restaurant on the westbound side of Route 72.

The proposal called for construction of a 5,262-square-foot Chick-fil-A restaurant with 114 seats and a 4,833-square-foot Panera Bread restaurant — both with drive-thrus.

Speaking to the Asbury Park Press, Mayor Gregory Myhre quipped that it’s been "the biggest issue in town.” For several years, residents have asked Myhre when construction will begin.

"As soon as it happened, people wanted to know when it was coming," he told the publication. "I am happy to see that they are moving on it."
