PEAPACK AND GLADSTONE, NJ — Detective Adam Caruso of the Peapack & Gladstone Police Department, who saved a choking infant's life last fall, was honored by Congressman Tom Kean as District 7's Law Enforcement Hometown Hero of the week.

Last fall, Caruso responded to an emergency call about a 9-month-old choking.

"Without hesitation, Detective Caruso identified and removed the ketchup packet blocking the infant’s airway, saving the child’s life," said Congressman Tom Kean. "Thank you, Detective Caruso, for your quick instincts and bravery under pressure. On behalf of the Peapack-Gladstone community and all of NJ-07, we sincerely appreciate your service."

"Detective Caruso did a fantastic job. His training and diligence helped him to realize that the child had an obstruction in his throat, which he was able to remove and prevent a further medical emergency. We are proud of him and how he represents our department," said Peapack & Gladstone Police Chief Stephen C. Ferrante to Patch.

Caruso was honored as part of Kean Jr.'s second annual Law Enforcement Hometown Heroes initiative. This initiative recognizes exceptional law enforcement officers serving communities across New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District.
