Environmental Education Center Programs in Basking Ridge

The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature as fall arrives in Somerset County. Delaware and Raritan Canal Paddle

  • Wednesday, October 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Paddlers will enjoy a relaxing trip along the Canal, enjoying the sights and sounds of this hidden gem of Somerset County.
  • Fee is $60 per person.

Halloween Happenings – By the Light of the Moon

  • Friday, October 16 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.
  • Led by a Naturalist, adventurers of all ages will explore the Great Swamp, listening for animal sounds ‘and experimenting in the night while walking the swampy trails beneath the stars. Walks will depart every 15 minutes with concurrent indoor activities including live critters, refreshments and more. (Rain date October 17.)
  • Fee is $6 per person.

Halloween Happenings – Halloween Hullabaloo

  • Sunday, October 18 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Family and friends of all ages will join Naturalists for an afternoon that will include a live animal show at 1p.m., followed by a plethora of carnival-like games for the whole family.
  • Preregistration is not required
  • Suggested donation is $5 per person.

Blue “BOBO (Buy One – Bring One) Fridays” bins now are located at the Environmental Education Center and Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge, as well as at the Somerset County Park Commission headquarters at North Branch Park in Bridgewater. The public is invited to drop off canned food or personal-care items for donation to Somerset County food banks.
