Man Crossing Route 22 Hit By Car, Hospitalized With Serious Injuries In Somerset County

Police are asking anyone with information on the accident to reach out to them.

NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — A man walking across Route 22 was hit by a car and is now hospitalized with serious injuries on Thursday, said North Plainfield Police Chief Alan McKay.

At around 5:10 a.m., a 911 call reported a pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle while crossing Gray Street near the intersection of Route 22 west in North Plainfield.

A man (currently unidentified) was apparently crossing Route 22 on foot when he was hit by a 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan on Route 22 West, said McKay.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 42-year-old man from Elizabeth, remained at the scene, said McKay.

The victim was treated and taken to the University Medical Trauma Center in Newark by North Plainfield Fire and EMS.

The victim suffered multiple serious injuries from the crash and is in serious condition, said McKay.

The crash remains under investigation by members of the North Plainfield Police Department Traffic Safety Division and the Somerset County CART Team.
