Gunshots Reported Across Basking Ridge Due To Hunting Season

Bernards Township Police said they have been getting reports of gunshots all over town.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Hearing gunshots in Bernards Township? Police said it is because Tuesday marked the first day of muzzleloader season for hunters.

"We've had reports all over the town," said Sergeant Steven Matthews.

The 2025/2026 deer hunting season is taking place at the English Family Woods property, which is open for hiking off Allen Road.

It is closed to the public on select dates through January to allow for hunting.

Only hunters approved by English Farm Associates are allowed to hunt on these specified days.

Here is a list of dates the property will be closed for hunting:

December:

  • Monday Dec. 1
  • Monday Dec. 8
  • Saturday Dec. 13

January:

  • Saturday Jan. 3
  • Saturday Jan. 10
  • Saturday Jan. 17
  • Saturday Jan. 24
