Over 200 Runners Participate in Basking Ridge 9/11 Heroes Run

The Basking Ridge race was one of over 50 Travis Manion Foundation races held nationally the weekend of 9/11.

Over 200 runners participated in the Basking Ridge 9/11 Heroes Run at Pleasant Valley Park on Sunday, September 13. The Basking Ridge race was one of over 50 Travis Manion Foundation races held nationally the weekend of
9/11. The Travis Manion Foundation was formed in memory of 1st Lt. Travis Manion who was killed while serving in Iraq. The Travis Manion Foundation assists veterans and families of the fallen by empowering them to take the next step in their personal journeys and inspire the next generation of leaders.

Before the start, Race Director and Ridge High School senior Brian Byrne reminded everyone that in the spirit of the Travis Manion Foundation, “We are all here today to honor the heroes of 9/11 and of the wars fought since. These heroes embody the ‘If Not Me, Then Who…’ ethos. They have put the safety of others above their own; they have put service before self. And some have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom.”

Funds raised from Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command) Foundation was established to provide benevolent support to active duty and medically retired MARSOC personnel and their families as well as to the families of Marines and Sailors who have lost their lives in service to our Nation. Captain Shaw was a 2002 graduate of Ridge High School and a 2006 graduate of the United States Naval Academy. Captain Shaw was one of the MARSOC Raider 7 killed during a training mission on March 10, 2015.
