WAMS Girls Soccer, Now 12-1-1, Faces Long Valley in Finale

The William Annin Middle School Soccer team from Basking Ridge will face Long Valley Middle School late Saturday morning for the final game of the Greater Morris County Junior Schools Coaches Association league tournament, capping a season where they have won all but two games.

The WAMS team is scheduled to play fourth-seeded Long Valley at 11:15 a.m. at the Boonton Township RV Athletic Fields. The Greater Morris County Junior Schools Coaches Assoc. has seeded WAMS No. 3 in Group IV, after the team played Mount Olive in the first round and won 3-0, said Rita Zarabara, athletic director at WAMS.

Zarabara said the girls soccer team has had a "stellar" season.  

The team started out their season with a tie against Heritage Middle School of Livingston, and the girls have never looked back, Zarabara said.  

The team rolled off 10 more wins, although they lost a tough game to Frelinghuysen Middle School, 1-0.

After ending the season 10-1, their record including the playoffs is 12-1-1, Zarabara said.

The semifinals pitted the WAMS girls soccer players against No-2 seeded Parsippany Central, and the team again won, 2-0.

WAMS has played Long Valley earlier this year and came out on top 2-0 so the team is hopeful, Zarabara said. However, she said the team will be missing three of its starters this weekend.
