William Annin Middle School Science Classes Prepare Pond Community Field Guide

Seventh grade students in Dr. Balija's class prepared a field guide in the William Annin Middle School (WAMS) pond courtyard today.

Seventh grade students in Dr. Balija’s class prepared a field guide in the William Annin Middle School (WAMS) pond courtyard today, Wednesday, October 7.

Students worked with a partner and an iPad to find small stakes with QR codes attached in different locations of the courtyard. Each QR code, scanned using the iPad, brought them to a website which discussed a specific species, an example of which could be found right there in the courtyard! Students used the website to learn the common and scientific names as well as to read about the species.

They then used the iPad to take a picture of the specimen which they uploaded to their student Goggle drive. The images will be used in a WAMS Pond Community Field Guide that would serve as a resource for the school to learn more about this amazing mini-ecosystem right here in the school! The lesson was a huge success!
