2023 Election Results For NJ-34: Timberlake, Venezia, Morales Win

Candidates are Britnee Timberlake, Joseph Belnome (Senate), Clenard Childress​​, James McGuire, Michael Venezia​​, Carmen Morales (Assembly)

NEW JERSEY — New Jersey voters cast ballots in races across the state on Tuesday, including contests for senate and assembly seats in the 34th District. Polling places closed at 8 p.m.

In the Senate’s 34th District, incumbent Britnee Timberlake (Democrat) matched up against Joseph Belnome (Republican). Terms last for four years.

With 95 percent of votes reported, Timberlake has been declared the winner. Here are the uncertified results as per the Associated Press and NJ Spotlight News (one open seat):

  • Britnee Timberlake – 16,754 votes (76.0%)
  • Joseph Belnome – 5,281 votes (24.0%)

In the Assembly’s 34th District, Clenard Childress Jr. and James McGuire were on the ballot for the Republican Party. Michael Venezia and Carmen Morales are running on the Democratic Party ticket.

With 95 percent of votes reported, Venezia and Morales have been declared the winners. Here are the uncertified results as per the Associated Press and NJ Spotlight News (two open seats):

  • Clenard Childress Jr. – 4,717 votes (11.1%)
  • James McGuire – 5,023 votes (11.8%)
  • Michael Venezia – 16,503 votes (38.8%)
  • Carmen Morales – 16,314 votes (38.3%)

This is the first general election that is being held using the 2023 Legislative district map that was approved last year. The redistricting effort – done once every 10 years –shuffled some towns around, putting them in different districts and giving them new elected representatives in the Statehouse. The 34th District now includes the municipalities of Belleville, Bloomfield, East Orange, Glen Ridge, Nutley and Orange.
