Belleville Cop Helps Save Child’s Life, Shows ‘Calm Under Pressure’
A young child collapsed after playing soccer at Planeson Park. Luckily, Susan Asali was at the scene – here's what happened next.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — A Belleville cop who helped to save a child’s life recently nailed down “Officer of the Month” honors for her quick thinking and “calm under pressure.”
The Belleville Police Department recognized Susan Asali as its Officer of the Month for October, complimenting her “extraordinary life-saving actions and outstanding dedication to duty.”

“On Oct. 1, Patrolwoman Asali responded to a critical medical emergency involving a young child who had collapsed after playing soccer at Planeson Park. Upon arriving on scene and without hesitation, she immediately began CPR and continued crucial lifesaving efforts until the arrival of Belleville Fire EMS. Her swift response, calm under pressure, and decisive actions directly contributed to saving the child’s life.”
“In addition to this heroic act, Officer Asali displayed exceptional initiative throughout the month with numerous directed patrols, issuing summonses and involved in arresting suspects connected to multiple burglaries and thefts,” the BPD continued.
“Her leadership, professionalism, and compassion reflect the highest standards of the Belleville Police Department,” the BPD added.
