2022 School Board Election Results In Belleville, Nutley (Updated)

BELLEVILLE-NUTLEY, NJ — Belleville and Nutley voters headed to the polls on Tuesday to cast ballots in the 2022 general election. Voters picked candidates for several offices, including competitive races for the local board of education in both towns.

Belleville and Nutley both had competitive school board races, with large fields of candidates vying for a limited number of seats.
In Belleville, six people ran for three seats on the board of education: Luis Antonio Muñiz Jr., Michael Louis Derro, Gabrielle Bennett-Meany, Ruben Angel Rodriguez, Michael Sheldon, and Lissa Missaggia.
With 24 of 26 districts reported as of Friday, Muñiz, Bennett-Meany and Derro were at the head of the pack. Here are the unofficial results, according to the Essex County Clerk's Office:
- Luis Antonio Muñiz Jr. - 3,169 votes (23.71%)
- Michael Louis Derro - 2,206 votes (16.50%)
- Gabrielle Bennett-Meany - 2,687 votes (20.10%)
- Ruben Angel Rodriguez - 1,650 votes (12.34%)
- Michael Sheldon - 1,558 votes (11.66%)
- Lissa Missaggia - 2,097 votes (15.69%)
In Nutley, six people ran for three seats on the board of education: Tom D'Elia, Charles W. Kucinski, Theresa Teri Quirk, Emanuele Triggiano, Laura Valente, and Andrea Podgarsky.
With 19 of 20 districts reported as of Friday, Kucinski, D'Elia and Teri Quirk were in the lead. Here are the unofficial results, according to the Essex County Clerk's Office:
- Tom D'Elia - 3,624 votes (19.94%)
- Charles W. Kucinski - 3,964 votes (21.81%)
- Theresa Teri Quirk - 3,310 votes (18.21%)
- Emanuele Triggiano - 2,055 votes (11.30%)
- Laura Valente - 3,032 votes (16.68%)
- Andrea Podgarsky - 2,193 votes (12.06%)
OTHER RACES
On the county level, Belleville and Nutley voters chose a candidate for Essex County executive. Both candidates ran unopposed in the primary election: incumbent Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. (Democrat) and Adam Kraemer (Republican). Nutley voters also picked between two candidates to fill an unexpired term for a New Jersey Senate seat in the 28th Legislative district: Renee C. Burgess and Joy Bembry Freeman.
