Car Fatally Strikes Pedestrian In Nutley, Investigation Continues

The 77-year-old pedestrian was transported to a nearby hospital and pronounced deceased shortly afterwards, Essex County authorities said.

NUTLEY, NJ — A pedestrian was fatally struck by a car in Nutley on Thursday night, authorities say.

Lee Gilbert, 77, of Nutley, was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Chestnut Street around 6:30 p.m., according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Gilbert was transported to University Hospital in Newark and pronounced dead at 7:15 p.m.

Prosecutors said the driver remained at the scene. A police investigation continues, authorities said Friday.
