Car Enters Passaic River After Crash, Nutley Cops Rescue Shaken Driver

The motorist told police that another vehicle hit them on the driver's side of the car, which caused them to veer off the road.

NUTLEY, NJ — Nutley police officers recently rescued a driver from icy waters after their car crashed into the Passaic River, authorities say.

According to the Nutley Police Department, officers responded to a crash with a vehicle in the river on the northbound portion of Route 21 on Dec. 7.

“Officers Hickey and Ammiano assisted the panicked driver who could not swim. Officer Hickey entered the water, opened the driver’s side door, and assisted the driver ashore to be treated by Nutley EMS.”

The motorist told police that another vehicle hit them on the driver’s side of the car, which caused them to veer off the road, over a guardrail and into the river, authorities said.
