Clara Maass Hospital Gets Nods For Stroke Treatment, Bariatric Surgery

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville recently earned recognitions for stroke treatment and its bariatric surgery program, administrators announced.

Last month, Clara Maass was awarded Primary Stroke Center Certification by the nonprofit Joint Commission.

The recognition is granted to hospitals that have shown outstanding care and expertise in treating stroke patients, in collaboration with the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association, administrators said.

According to hospital administrators:

“As a primary stroke center, Clara Maass Medical Center has a team of board-certified neurologists and radiologists specializing in diagnosing and treating stroke patients. Neurology and Emergency Department personnel are also trained in diagnosing and treating stroke. Our hospital also offers neuroimaging services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and rehabilitation services, which are crucial for stroke patients’ recovery. And we track outcomes for stroke patients, which helps to identify areas for improvement and ensures that patients receive the best possible care.”

BARIATRIC SURGERY

Clara Maass was also recently included as one of only 101 hospitals in the nation on Money.com’s “Best Hospitals for Bariatric Surgery” list.

Money.com, in partnership with The Leapfrog Group, announced the Best Hospitals for Bariatric Surgery list in January 2023. The 101 hospitals that earned this distinction achieve Leapfrog’s standards for safety, including performing a high enough number of the procedures to give patients the best odds of a good outcome, and keeping patients safe from errors, infections and complications, administrators at Clara Maass said.

“This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff and physicians, who are committed to providing our patients the highest quality of care,” Clara Maass president and CEO Mary Ellen Clyne said of the program.

In addition to earning Money.com’s Best Hospital for Bariatric Surgery distinction, Clara Maass Medical Center is also a five-star recipient for Bariatric Surgery by Healthgrades for seven years in a row (2017 to 2023).
