BELLEVILLE, NJ – June 23, 2025 – Historic SoHo Lofts officially opened its doors today following a ribbon cutting ceremony that marked the completion of the ambitious rehabilitation of the former Essex County Hospital. The newly transformed 245-unit residential building represents a significant milestone in Belleville's ongoing revitalization efforts. Developers, Steve and Sophia Valiotis were joined by County Executive, Joseph N. DiVincenzo Jr., Councilman, Vincent Cozzarelli, Jr., Senator, Britnee N. Timberlake, and Assembly Members, Carmen Theresa Morales and Michael Venezia, along with many local dignitaries to celebrate the historic restoration project.

"This project represents the perfect marriage of preserving our community's history while creating modern, comfortable living spaces for residents," said Sophia Valiotis. "The transformation of this long-unused facility into a vibrant residential community is truly the crown jewel of Belleville."

Steve Valiotis was quick to point out that the former abandoned hospital, will not contain 245 residential units across 8 floors, extensive landscaped grounds surrounding the building, a Top-of-the-line fitness center and community room, on-site laundromat for resident convenience, dedicated on-site parking, a dog run area for pet owners. The Development Team also proudly announced that two floors, roughly one-third of the apartments, will be dedicated for use by 55+ residents.
The completion of Historic SoHo Lofts marks the successful conclusion of a multi-year rehabilitation effort that has transformed a historically significant but unused building into a modern residential community that honors its past while serving the future needs of Belleville residents.
