How Much State Aid For Belleville-Nutley Schools? NJ Releases Totals
Some school districts will see more state aid, others will lose funding. Here are the 2025-2026 numbers for Nutley and Belleville.
BELLEVILLE-NUTLEY, NJ — Belleville's public schools will see a bump in funding under the proposed New Jersey state budget, but Nutley is slated to lose some aid.

Here's how the numbers break down for Belleville and Nutley:
- The Belleville Public School District is in line to get $68,302,115 in state aid: a 2.58 percent increase from last year’s $66,585,432
- The Nutley Public School District is in line to get $12,113,388 in state aid: a 3 percent decrease from last year’s $12,488,029
New Jersey Assemblyman Michael Veneiza, who represents Belleville and Nutley in the 34th District, praised the funding boost for Belleville, calling it a "major win."

"However, our work isn’t done," he added, pointing out that Nutley will see a drop in state aid.
Property taxes in New Jersey are mainly made up of three parts: school, municipal and county. Experts say that a decrease in school aid – or even a flat number – can trigger an increase in taxes for a town’s homeowners.
Essex County will be getting a combined 5.26 percent hike to state aid next year – more than every other county in New Jersey except Salem (5.59 percent). That increase isn’t shared evenly, however – with several local districts losing state funding. See the full chart here.
