Kearny Summer Scuffle: Brings Opportunities, Kearny Girls Assistant Wrestling Coach Posted A Opening

We had the opportunity to follow the Belleville Wrestling team and many town programs at the 5th year of Kearny Summer Scuffle. Kearny’s host Coach Tony Carratura reports, “We’ve been running since the summer scuffle since the summer of 2021. Started out with 3 teams and about 30 entries… this year we had representation from 20 teams and over 220 entries.” Outstanding growth of wrestling.

Kearny Summer Scuffle had the old school feeling trapped in this aroma of sweaty sweatshirts and mighty wrestlers ready to go. Head gear check, shoe laces taped, singlet strapped, and step up when your bout number is announced. Picture us in the old Kearny Middle School whistle blowing, Coaches instructing, teammates cheering, and some great BBQ chicken and rice in the side if you get hungry. The situation was living the best life. If you were in the first year of wrestling you will wrestle your experience level. Those skill levels ranged from 1-5. State placers, National placers, and Boys and Girls just starting out all toeing the line with the same goal of testing their skills. A true testament of grit and betterment physically and mentally.

Kearny hosted its program to all High School wrestlers near and far every Tuesday and Thursday for 3 weeks in the Summer. You will get 2 or more matches per night and some included a nice warm up and wrestling clinic. It was great seeing these kids stay active over the summer.
