Local Justice: Decisions in Municipal Court
The Municipal Court handles criminal cases arising in Belleville. Five of the cases are reported below.

In State v. John Michael Avarez, of Belleville, the State charged defendant on February 14 with possession of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute, possession within 500 feet of municipal property, and possession in a school zone. The charges resulted in a conditional discharge. The Court imposed a one year term of supervised probation and imposed fines and costs totaling $757. The Court also ordered defendant to stay out of Belleville school zones.
In State v. Karl Sampe, of Belleville, the State charged defendant on February 15 with resisting arrest. The defendant was found guilty. The Court imposed fines and costs totaling $257.
In State v. Felix Quinines, of Newark, the State charged defendant on February 24 with possession of a controlled dangerous substance. The charge resulted in a conditional discharge. The Court imposed a one year term of supervised probation and imposed fines and costs totaling $832.

In State v. Brice Hall, of Bloomfield, the State charged defendant with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Pursuant to a plea agreement, the original charges were dismissed and defendant pleaded guilty to an amended charge of "drug wandering" (remaining or prowling in a public place with the purpose of unlawfully obtaining or distributing a controlled dangerous substance or controlled substance analog). The Court imposed a one year term of supervised probation and imposed fines and costs totaling $257.
In State v. Alexandra Perez, of Belleville, the State charged defendant on January 13 with offering alcoholic beverage to a minor. Defendant pleaded guilty. The Court imposed fines and costs totaling $430.

The Belleville Municipal Court convenes in the Municipal Building, located at
152 Washington Avenue. The Court convenes Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
