‘No Homework Weekends’ In Nutley Schools Scheduled Near Holidays

NUTLEY, NJ — Students in the Nutley Public School District will get a break from homework assignments on weekends surrounding several major holidays this year.

The district recently released the dates for its “No Homework Family Weekends” in 2023-2024, which can be seen here.

Nutley isn’t the only school district in New Jersey that has rolled out “homework holidays” for students in an attempt to give them more time to spend with their families or enjoy activities.

Education Weekly estimates that a high schooler takes home 3.5 hours of homework every day. A Stanford researcher found that students in high-performing school districts who spend too much time on homework experience more stress, physical health problems, alienation from society and lack of balance.

  • Nov. 11-12 – Diwali (Nov. 12)

  • Feb. 10-11 – Chinese New Year (Feb. 10)
  • March 23-24 - Holi (March 25)

  • May 4-5 – Yom Hashoah (May 4-5)
