Nutley Man Beaten, Robbed by Three Youths Last Week

One suspect caught immediately

Two of three youths suspected of beating and robbing a township man Jan. 28 remain at large, Capt. Tom Strumolo of the Nutley Police Department said Monday.

The victim was walking in the area of Walnut and Rutgers streets shortly before 4 pm when he was approached by three boys ranging in age from 15 to 17. The youths punched the victim in the face and struck him in the head with a tree branch before making off with his two cell phones, a Motorola Droid 4 and a Motorola Droid X each worth about $600. Police later found the phones in a nearby yard. The victim was treated by the Nutley Rescue Squad.

The three suspects are all black and were all wearing North Face-brand black puffy coats and black knitted winter hats. Two of them were described as being 5’5” and 130 lbs and the third was described as being 5’7” and 175 lbs.

One of them was captured shortly after the incident by Nutley police near Grant Avenue and River Road and was taken to the Essex County Correctional Facility
