Nutley Police Arrest Woman for Self-Inflicted Wounds

March 23:
A 34-year-old Nutley man was charged with giving police false information following an alleged assault in Nutley that actually occurred in Paterson. John Deperi told police he was assaulted on Centre Street at 12:39 a.m. when he says three men approached him from behind, knocked him to the ground and repeatedly kicked him before stealing his cell phone and an undisclosed amount of cash. Deperi was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.However, the following day, detectives investigating the incident learned Deperi was not assaulted in Nutley and was instead assaulted in Paterson. Deperi refused to report the incident to Paterson police and subsequently was charged with giving Nutley police false information.

A Nutley High School student will face theft charges after he was caught stealing food from the lunchroom at 12:12 p.m., Nutley police said.

A Cedar Street resident contacted police after a 51-year-old man wandered into the home and was acting irrational at around 11:20 p.m., Nutley police reported. When police arrived, they determined the man was suffering from a mental condition and transported him to an area hospital for an evaluation.

March 24:
A 40-year-old Newark woman was arrested on criminal mischief and warrants charges at 5:26 a.m. following a self-inflicted stabbing incident in a Cleveland Avenue residence. When police arrived, Marilyn Colorado told police she had been stabbed following a dispute with the 30-year-old son of a man at the home. Police said teenagers who had fled during the argument with an infant, were found by police at Park and Washington avenues and everyone was taken to police headquarters for questioning. After further investigation, police discovered the wounds were self-inflicted and she was charged with criminal mischief. In addition, Nutley police discovered Colorado was wanted on more than $8,000 worth of outstanding warrants out of Newark.Colorado was released on her own recognizance and turned over to Newark police.

Nutley police are investigating a keying to a 2002 GMC on Park Avenue after a resident told police at 1:20 p.m. they discovered long scratches running down the side of the vehicle.
March 26:
A Harrison Street resident told police at 8:46 a.m. the IRS notified them someone had already used their Social Security number in a fraud attempt. Police are investigating the incident.

A Centre Street resident told police at 11:07 a.m. seven small trees recently planted in the backyard of the residence were stolen overnight. Police are investigating the theft. The trees were valued at more than $140.

A Lincoln Ave resident declined to file charges after he reported a large generator was stolen from his backyard and the generator was returned.
The homeowner told police at 1:02 p.m. he saw a blue van earlier and alerted police to a possible suspect. Police spoke to several neighbors and possible suspects before the generator was returned to the homeowner.

Nutley police were called to the high school at 1:04 p.m. after a student reported a $400 iPod was stolen from the student’s locker. An investigation is continuing.

Nutley police are investigating the theft at 4:49 p.m. of shipping pallets from a Franklin Avenue business’s loading area.

Nutley police arrested a 21-year-old woman on drug and other charges, while investigating the theft of electronics from an Ernest Street home at 5:16 p.m., police said. During the investigation, police found Michelle Rondinella hiding in a Rutgers Avenue garage. Roninella allegedly fled from police and after a short pursuit was apprehended. Police allegedly found Rondinella in possession of a controlled dangerous substance and she was arrested on that charge as well as obstruction of justice for running from police. Rondinella was later released. The missing electronics remain under investigation.
March 27:
A Fairfax Court resident reported at 8:42 a.m. the tailgate on their 2011 Toyota pickup had been stolen.

Nutley police are investigating the theft of gifts from a baby shower at a Chestnut Street lodge at 4:53 p.m.
March 28:
Nutley police are investigating the theft of several electronic items stolen from a church at 11:38 a.m.

A 24-year-old Newark woman was arrested at 1:58 p.m. after attempting to cash a fraudulent check at a Franklin Avenue bank, police said. Naomi Baskerville was arrested a block away from the bank when she was approached by officers. She was taken to police headquarters and charged with forgery before being released pending a court hearing.

Nutley detectives are investigating the theft of donations and damage to a wooden collection barrel at a local church at 2:51 p.m.

A bicyclist was uninjured after being struck by a motorist at 9:58 p.m. on Passaic Avenue, police said.

A 25-year-old Bloomfield man was cited for weapons and drug charges following a traffic stop by Nutley police for driving an unregistered motor vehicle. When Michael Lambroshino was stopped on East Passaic Avenue around 10:23 p.m., police noticed a large knife in the car while speaking to him. When officers asked him to exit the car, a package containing a controlled dangerous substance fell.
Lambroshino was issued a citation and released pending a court hearing.

Detectives have charged 20-year-old James Colson of Belleville with an assault behind a Franklin Avenue bar that occurred behind the bar on March 9 at 1:46 a.m.
March 29:
A 29-year-old Bloomfield man was arrested on multiple motor vehicle charges after a traffic stop at 2:37 a.m. Dean Dasilva was pulled over by police after he allegedly came close to hitting a parked car, police said. After talking with Dasilva, police determined he was driving under the influence and was arrested. In addition, Dasilva was issued several summonses for driving with a suspended license, speeding, careless driving and refusal to take a Breathalyzer test. Police also reported he had an outstanding $1,000 bond from Nutley. Dasilva posted bail and was released pending a court hearing.

A 38-year-old Belleville man involved in a dispute with his landlord at Spurr Place property was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Mark Fink was arrested at 10:51 a.m. for the outstanding $707 warrant and turned over to Belleville police.
