Parking Updates In Belleville: ‘Safety Sticks’ Installed, New Lot Opens

The Township of Belleville rolled out two local changes involving parking this week.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — The Township of Belleville rolled out two local changes involving parking this week: a new municipal parking lot, and the installation of some new traffic monitoring devices.

On Thursday, the township announced that it has installed new parking enforcement devices at multiple intersections.

According to town officials, the “Safety Sticks” will be monitoring No Parking zones seven days a week, 24 hours a day. The devices take pictures of illegally parked vehicles and transmit them to the Belleville Police Department. Once the violation is confirmed, parking summonses will be mailed to the vehicle's owner.

“Vehicles illegally parked at yellow curbs near crosswalks and intersections obstruct traffic sight lines, which creates a safety hazard for pedestrians crossing the streets and for motorists making turns,” municipal authorities said.

The goal of the effort? To stop illegal parking and improve safety, officials said.
