Tanning Mom Legislation Signed into Law

Rule inspired by Nutley's tanning mom Patricia Krentcil becomes state law.

"Tanning Mom" might have escaped her grand jury indictment last month, but the state hasn't forgotten about her altogether.

The Associate Press reports that on Monday, April 1, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie signed legislation banning anyone under 17 from using a tanning bed and anyone under 14 from getting a spray tan.

The legislation was written after Nutley resident Patricia Krentcil was accused of taking her 5-year-old daughter into a tanning booth  last year and was subsequently charged with child endangerment. The deeply tanned Krentcil became a grotesque sort of celebrity, with tabloids dubbing her Tanning Mom.
