BERKELEY, NJ — A proposal for a three-story drug and alcohol rehab/detox facility will be heard by the Berkeley Township Zoning Board of Adjustment later this month.

Developers are seeking to build the three-story center on Tallwood Way, according to public notice. They need several variances as the property lies within the business zone, where these types are facilities are not permitted under Berkeley's zoning laws.

The developers of this property are the same as those behind the controversial 24-unit apartment complex also on Tallwood Way. When that proposal was initially approved, it split the property and created two new lots; the eastern lot will house the apartments, while the western lot is set for this rehab facility.

The building will house 82 rooms and 164 beds, according to public notice. A helicopter pad is also proposed.

A hearing on this application will be held at the Nov. 12 zoning board meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Township Municipal Building (627 Pinewald Keswick Road).
