BERKELEY, NJ — The community is mourning the loss of Richard Foster II, a Vietnam War veteran who formerly served as an EMT in Bayville and Ocean Gate.

Foster died on June 21 at the age of 75 surrounded by his loved ones, according to his obituary.

“He fought a good battle but unfortunately his work on Earth has come to an end and he is now with the higher power who has seen fit to call him home to rest from his labors,” Bayville EMS said on Facebook. “He will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”

He earned a Bronze Star three times for his service in the Vietnam War and achieved the rank of major in the Army.

Foster later worked with the Ocean Gate Fire Department as a fire police officer, and served as an EMT in Bayville and Ocean Gate.

He was also part of the Berkeley Girls Softball League for about 20 years.

Foster is survived by his wife Lorraine, five children and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held July 2 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mastapeter Memorial Home in Bayville.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
