Berkeley Mom 'Literally Saved My Life,' Says Daughter

BERKELEY, NJ— Moms do so much for everyone around them. We try to celebrate them all year long, but Mother's Day is a perfect opportunity to shout it from the rooftops and post it on Patch: Mom rocks!

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize the awesome moms and mom figures in communities like yours.

This submission comes from Katelyn Staub who nominated Laurena Staub of Berkeley.

What makes your mom extra special?

My mom has helped with getting therapies, support and finding my voice. She showed me how to be strong. She taught me ordinary people can do extraordinary things. Even though we were close to losing everything, she said she would never give up on me. I hope someday my voice is heard and I help save someone’s life, too by them telling their story and getting help.

My mom stood by my side and believed me when no one else did, except for my grandmother, my mom’s mom. My mom showed me how find the strength in me I never even knew I had, to have faith, never give up and overcome ... She is very protective and supportive of me.

My mom has always put me first. She has gone without many things so there is money for my medications, therapies and other services. She never gave up on me even when the rest of the world did. I never could have done it without her ... I love and I wouldn’t trade her for the world.

Why do you feel your mom deserves the spotlight?

My mom has gone unrecognized even though she has done so much. She literally saved my life.
