BERKELEY, NJ — Ken Turp was the longtime broadcasting voice for the Jersey Shore sports scene. He died May 30 at age 76.

Turp held several careers, but his life passion was sports, according to his obituary. He was the sports director of WOBM and a broadcaster for local television stations in the shore area.

He covered football, basketball and wrestling. Among several accomplishments, Turp is a member of the Central Regional Hall of Fame and Shore Football Coaches Hall of Fame.

His circle of friends included some of the greatest coaches and athletes in shore history. He also founded and coached in the Jersey Shore Summer Basketball League.

"Ken's memory for detail was remarkable and he would often remind coaches, years later, of big plays in their games," his obituary says.

The Rider College graduate also worked for for the accounting firms of Mease, Gorby & Russo, along with Russo & Skinner.

Turp was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Ralph Kenneth Turp, Sr. and Elizabeth Turp. He is survived by his cousins — Karen Ware of Waterford, Warren Smith of Atco and John Turp of Iron Station, North Carolina.
