Irene C. Metzger, Life Member Of The Ocean Gate First Aid Squad, Dies At 79

Services will be held on Sunday and Monday

Irene C. Metzger, of Ocean Gate, died on January 16, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was 79.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, she moved to Ocean Gate in 1980. Mrs. Metzger was very active in her community. She was a dedicated life member and Past Captain of the Ocean Gate First Aid Squad. She also served as past deputy coordinator for the Office of Emergency Management.She also was a devoted communicant and Eucharistic Minister of St. Barnabas Church, Bayville.

Irene was predeceased by her beloved husband Fred, Sr., and by her parents, James and Irene and her brother James. Surviving are; four children, Cindy Rofrano, Freddy, Jr., and wife Lara, Matthew and his wife Liz and Melanie Anderson and her husband Ken; two siblings, Richard Cavanagh and his wife Anna and Dolores Gilbert; fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 22 at the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home before a celebrating an 11 a.m. Mass at St. Barnabas R.C. Church, 33 Woodland Road, Bayville. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Irene's memory to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org), would be appreciated.
