Joan Longarzo, Longtime Elementary School Teacher, Dies At 76

Services for former Beachwood Elementary School teacher will be held on Friday and Saturday

Joan Longarzo of Bayville died suddenly on Jan. 30, 2018. She was 76.

Born in Passaic, she lived in Lyndhurst for many years before moving to Toms River in 1970. She then lived in her own home in Bayville for rest of her life.

Joan was an elementary school teacher for 27 years before she retired from Beachwood Elementary School. Even during her retirement, she dedicated her time and love to the education of children by volunteering to read each year. She was an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority as well as being very involved in the Ocean County Retired Educators Association.

She was predeceased by her parents, Nat and Tessie Longarzo. Surviving are her Aunt Amy Delcore, her godchildren; Daniel Chiocco, Jennifer Britting, and David Gold. Joan is surrounded by numerous cousins, family, and friends as well as her beloved cats, Sandy and the late Oreo.

Visiting hours will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Atlantic City Boulevard, Bayville. The funeral will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home before celebrating a 11:15 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Barnabas R.C. Church in Bayville. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, in Toms River.
