Truck Smashes Through Jersey Shore Home, Rupturing Gas Line, Police Say

The truck hit a parked classic car, crashed through the home's garage and hit the hot water heater and ended up in the living room.

BERKELEY, NJ — A pickup truck smashed through a home in Holiday City, causing a natural gas leak and trapping the driver in the vehicle, according to Berkeley police.

On Friday afternoon, a 2014 Dodge Ram crossed the intersection of Jamaica Boulevard and St. Catherine Boulevard, police said.

The truck crashed into a parked 1969 Volkswagen Beetle, drove through the garage and struck the hot water heater before driving into the home's living room, police said.

The crash caused a natural gas leak and entrapped the driver, police said.

The Manitou Park Fire Department and the Pinewald Pioneer Fire Department responded to rescue the driver, while New Jersey Natural Gas and JCP&L turned off the gas and made sure the neighbors were safe.

Police said that the home's residents were uninjured.

The driver is believed to have had a serious medical emergency, police said, and was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment.

The area of Jamaica Boulevard was closed for approximately 90 minutes during the investigation. After the fire department was able to make the structure stable, Jersey Shore Towing responded and removed the vehicle.
