Two people Monday morning were arrested and accused of stealing mail from the mailboxes in front of the post office, police said.

RAMSEY, NJ — Two more people have been arrested in connection with thefts from mailboxes at the Ramsey post office, police announced Monday.

Two people Monday morning were arrested and accused of stealing mail from the mailboxes in front of the post office at 175 East Main St., Chief Bryan Gurney confirmed.

Gurney declined to offer further comment on the arrests or identify the people arrested.

The arrests come a week after two men Nov. 11 were charged with theft, possession of burglary tools, and criminal attempt of theft, in connection with the theft of mail from the boxes, Gurney previously said.

Gurney said authorities continue to work with United States Postal Service inspectors regarding thefts from the mailboxes. Police found mouse traps with glue, shoelaces, and plastic water bottles during their investigation last week that resulted in the arrests of Jerson Acosta, 20, and Raisuli Rodriguez-Fermin, 19.

The chief urged residents to not use the mailboxes in front of the post office. If someone has to use them, they should drop off mail before mail is picked up at 5 p.m., Gurney said. Authorities are working with the U.S. Postal Service to get new, more secure mailboxes.

Police are investigating incidents of check fraud stemming from mail being stolen. Anyone who suspects they may be a victim should email Detective Adam Macaluso at amacaluso@ramseypd.com.
