Monmouth Co. Saw A Decrease In New Positive COVID Cases This Week

MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ — Monmouth County registered a total of 329 new COVID-19 cases between Monday and Thursday this week, a decrease compared to the same time period last week which reported 486 new cases.

Howell reported the most number of new positive cases in the county (12.5 percent), followed by Freehold Township (11.2 percent) and Middletown (10 percent).

There were also two new deaths being reported related to COVID-19 in Monmouth County.

Most New Jersey counties now have a "high" level of transmission — including Monmouth —, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone said last week that even though the county had been seeing higher COVID-19 positive cases, there had not been significant increases in hospitalizations or deaths related to COVID-19.

According to Arnone, the county also has one of the highest vaccination rates, with more than half of its towns having 70 percent or more of their population vaccinated.

"Monmouth County is a popular tourism destination," Arnone said. "We are excited to have visitors come to Monmouth County for its incredible beaches, parks and to support our business communities and we also want people to be as safe as possible."
